Right Train, Wrong Direction

Young Son (who, in all honesty, I should call Young Adult Son, since he is 22) and some friends recently took a trip to the Big Apple, New York City.  They had an amazing time and, upon his return,  I enjoyed hearing him tell stories about what happened, what they thought would happen, and all the funny in between.

One story happened on the infamous New York City subway system. Young Adult Son and Friend went to the theater they planned on seeing Phantom of the Opera at that evening to pick up tickets.  To hear YAS tell it, he was pretty proud of his subway skills and didn't get lost or on the wrong train.  This is a pretty big deal for a kid from a town where we have a "sky-way" whose ridership numbers are best described as "woefully below initial projections."  Maybe if it went more than 6 places it would have more riders; I'm just saying.

On the way back from the theater, however, they ran into a problem.  They got on the right train, but a few stops along the route they realized they going in the wrong direction!  So they got off, got on another train, but again, realized they were on the right train, but the wrong direction.

This story ends well and they got back to where they wanted to be.  By all reports, The Phantom of the Opera was an excellent show.  Everyone got home safe and sound and a good time was had by all.

This made me think:  how many times have I been doing a good thing, but not the right thing for me at that time?  There are lots of good things to do, but what is God calling me to do?  I want to do what God has planned for me at the right time.  Of course, this requires that I be in a close relationship with my heavenly Father.  If I never talked to him, how would I know what he had to say?  I get God's wisdom through reading his Word, the Bible.  I talk to him in prayer.  And thennnnnnn...... there's that time to be quiet and still to know God is God and be open to what He has for me.

So when's the last time you were quiet and still?  When's the last time you read the Bible?  When is the last time you prayed?  Make the effort to get to know God and his Word and you will get on the right train going the right direction.
